Cafe Balti Review - November 2005

For personal detailed reviews of the restaurant click on the links to the left.

The summary review is shown below.

Summary

Two weeks and another curry!

A gathering of 8 of us met up at Zaks, or the Victoria as the pub side is known.  The place had been smartened up since our last visit although looking at the size of the bouncers on the door you'd think Wolverton had a reputation as being a dodgy area, enough said.

Last time we visited Cafe Balti we had a very poor experience, in fact prior to this visit Cafe Balti it had the lowest recorded score.  See here for the last review.

So what was it like this time?

First impression was of a very busy restaurant.  Two large parties excluding ours.  Our immediate thoughts went back to our last visit when we waited ages for every course.

The overall impression from most of the members was that the food really was rather good.  All but one of the members rated the food at least 4 with Martin having to give the maximum 5.

Interesting raspberry jam and tamerind dip.  Try the red stuff.

Elegantly presented starters, great portion of chicken tikka.  Tender lamb; it passed the "no knife needed" test

Good main courses and side dishes.  No complaints with breads or rice either.  Plus Cobra, Kingfisher and Bangla beers.

Service was very attentive and a million times better than our previous visit.  The "drinks on the house" at the end also rounded off a very pleasant evening.  Remember to ask for yours!

VFM also reasonable.  The common curry  costs place PM in the bottom third of costs in Milton Keynes so certainly good value.

The final score was a surprising 21.0.  This means a Certificate of Excellence will be heading its way to the Cafe Balti.  Well done!

Now if you could just move Cafe Balti out of Wolverton it would be in the top 6 curry houses in MK...
