Indian Cottage Review - Jan 2005

The summary review is shown below.

Summary

This was our first official visit to the Indian Cottage, although some of us had been here with the Juniors when we had a very good Sunday buffet toward the end of 2004.  The Sunday buffet is certainly to be commended from both a food and VFM perspective (kids under 10 eat free).

13 of us attended this meeting and met up in the Coachmakers Arms before hand.  A bustling pub full of youffs and smoke.

The first impressions of the Indian Cottage were good.  It has the advantage of being relatively new so the decor is fresh and plush.

It is certainly more up market than some curry house with notable attention to serviette origami and modern cutlery.  So most definitely somewhere nice to take someone special.

The manager is an old face in the MK area.  We recognised him from previous positions at Maharajas and La Hind.

Now to the scores.  22.5 is a resounding thumbs up to the Indian Cottage.  Remember, anything over 20.0 is considered to be good and worth a visit.  This is the 2nd highest score for all current reviews.

Interestingly the Juniors also rated this 22.5 at their visit so how about that for consistency!.

A few members questioned the ambience, in particular the lack of music, although to be fair this did change later in the evening.

The food was generally very good, hot and well presented.  Starters were all very good.  We had a range of main dishes between us and the only negative comment I heard from a few quarters was the quality of the lamb.  Not as tender as it could be.  Some other plus points for me was the nan breads.  I had a keema nan that actually had some meat in it!

Views on service varied with some members feeling things were taking too long.  I did not notice this but perhaps an extra half a Taj Mahal could have been added to the service score if things were a little quicker.

On the evening a number of members commented the menu was "takeaway prices".  The meal was certainly not expensive but the common curry costs place the Indian Cottage somewhere in the middle ground.

So well done to the Indian Cottage for a great start to 2005.  A certificate of excellence is on the way.
