Maharajas Review

The summary review is shown below.

Summary

The final reckoning is shown in the table below. Overall we rate it an average 18.0 Taj Mahals.

We last visited Maharajas 2 years ago and were expecting good things as it really did perform last time. What a difference this time around!  Firstly I should say that they were very busy.  I think every table was occupied by the time we sat down. I would say this impacted the scores in a number of ways but we also noticed a decline in a number of areas which we'll come onto.

Maharajas is still perhaps one of the nicest environments in which to have a curry, particularly if you have a lady with you for the evening.  Nice décor, smart tables, cutlery and linen napkins are most civilised.  We imagine Maharajas is aiming for Jaipur type clientele which (only 5 mins up the road) and this is reflected in the price.  Talking of price this was one of the most expensive curries we have had and certainly not the best.

General moans from the evening largely revolved around poor service and cost.  The food was generally OK with the usual mixture of highs and lows.  Perhaps Maharajas would say "we're busy" but as a customer I expect food and drinks to arrive in a reasonable amount of time.  At one point I had to ask 3 times for a jug of water which took about 20mins to arrive!  If customers leave with a bad experience they will go elsewhere.

Maharajas has an interesting menu, clearly a capable chef and a pleasant ambience.  More focus on service (quality and time) could lead to greater glory.
